About this program

Venture to Cape Town and take part in a volunteer project that works with special needs children in a school. The school was started by the mother of an epileptic 6-year-old who was hospitalized and ultimately became paralysed due to the illness being untreated. The mother, Indy, started the Elundini Educare Centre for the Disabled in 2008, and it now provides care to the kids of the township Du Noon.

Prior to the program, you’ll participate in a 2-day orientation in Cape Town. After arriving at the airport, you’ll have a chance to explore the area, meet other volunteers, and enjoy a BBQ at the hostel. You’ll also have to the opportunity to take a walking tour of the city, or take a hop-on-hop-off bus to see the highlights.

When you arrive at the project, you’ll have a chance to participate in various activities including one on one classroom assistance, teaching classes, feeding the children, provide mental stimulation, physiotherapy and more. The program is extremely important as many of the children come from underprivileged communities, have single or unemployed parents, or are left in vulnerable situations.

This program is a life-changing experience for those who love kids. A few highlights include:

  • Experience working with special needs kids
  • Make a difference in the lives of kids
  • Gain knowledge about special needs care
  • Learn about South African cultures
  • Make new friends
