Before you say goodbye, we’d love you to join our movement for applied wildlife conservation.
We won’t share your information, and we pay close attention to what we send out.
And if you’d rather not, that’s cool too. You can still follow our efforts on social media.
We’re glad you signed up.
If for whatever reason you’re unhappy with our messages you can unsubscribe at any time. Just click ‘Unsubscribe’ at the bottom of every email we send.
But we hope you stick around. We’re just getting started at something pretty good.
Discover your love for wildlife rescue and rehabilitation in South Africa at the only primate rehabilitation centre in the Mpumalanga region. Your experience will essentially be with vervet monkeys, most of whom arrive at the centre as orphans.
The centre is also home to other species who have been rescued, including antelope, birds, mongoose, bushpigs, reptiles, warthog, and other small predators.
The program is brought to you by DIY Wild, an NGO that relies entirely on donations from volunteers. With your help and support, you are actively participating in the futures of these animals. DIY works in 4 key areas: Rescue, Rehabilitation, Release, and Education.
As a volunteer at this program, you’ll aid in the rescue of injured, displaced, and orphaned wildlife, as well as unwanted exotic pets. In terms of rehabilitation, you’ll assist with the specific rehabilitation approaches of each animal species with the ultimate goal of release.
This is an incredible opportunity for wildlife lovers who are looking for a fulfilling travel experience.
This program will change depending on the needs of the animals, so an average day is difficult to determine. However, there are specific duties that will be completed each day. An idea of this is the following:
7:00 AM - Morning feeding routine for all animals. Infant animals receive bottles.
8:00-9:00 AM - Volunteer breakfast
9:00-12:00 PM - Cleaning of night cages and enclosures. Change blankets, etc. Food sorting, food collection, enrichment, maintenance, etc.
11:30 AM - Seeds for rehab monkey troops
12:00-1:00 PM - Lunch
1:00-3:00 PM - Continuation of projects
3:00 PM - Afternoon Feeding
6:00 PM - Animals to bed for night, evening bottles, etc.
7:00 PM - Dinner
