But we hope you stick around. We’re just getting started at something pretty good.
Venture to the largest of the seven Canary Islands and take part in a valuable conservation project to protect whales and dolphins in Tenerife. The island is home to two world heritage sites, a national park, large volcano and incredible adventurous activities.
Throughout the program, you will learn a great deal about whales and dolphins, as well as grow your knowledge and skills in conservation. You will take part in cetacean surveys which collect valuable data that is put into a database to record information about each species in the Tenerife waters.
In addition to surveys, you’ll participate in community outreach programs where you will work with the local whale watching industry to increase awareness of the threats to whales and dolphins in the area. You’ll also help inform tourists of the impact of tourism on the local wildlife.
You may also look forward to the following:
Your program is located in southern Tenerife, close to the Tenerife South Airport. You will make your way to the project on your own, or pre-arrange a pickup with Frontier prior to your arrival.
Your stay will be at a volunteer house close to the harbours where the whale watching boats launch. It is also the field base for the conservation efforts you'll be working on. Your accommodations will be in shared rooms with bunkbeds in a comfortable house.
As part of the program, you will receive 2 meals per day on the weekdays. Housework and cooking are shared among the volunteers and staff.
While on the program, you will participate in several activities including cetacean surveys, community outreach, coastal surveys, and much more!
