Known as the White Shark Capital of the World, Gansbaai, South Africa is a very popular destination for tourists hoping to witness Great White Sharks in the wild. Here’s your chance to take part in a Great White Shark volunteer program and see for yourself!
This thrilling volunteer program works alongside marine biologists as they study Great White Sharks and other South African marine wildlife. You’ll have the chance to assist in the study of shark biology, behavior and marine conservation, as well as, lend a hand with the other crew and travelers on the shark diving boat.
By participating as a volunteer, you will take part in crucial conservation efforts as well as related community projects, including beach clean-ups. You will also have the chance to go on shark cage dives, and if volunteering for more than 4 weeks, you may go on the research boat.
This is the experience of a lifetime for anyone who ever dreamed, or is dreaming of becoming a marine biologist!
Working alongside marine biologists, study Great White Sharks and other marine species. Research migrational, behavioral and feeding habits through recording dorsal fin identification, sightings, tagging and taking photos for a database. Duties will depend on your skills. If staying for 4 weeks or longer, you will have the chance to observe tagging on the research boat. Set in the Great White Shark capital of the world, you will have the opportunity to take part in conservation and community projects, cage dive, and gain experience working with other crew and tourists on the shark diving boat. Rates for 2018: 1 Week: $650 USD 2 Weeks: $1210 USD 3 Weeks: $1725 USD 4 Weeks: $2060 USD * Additional Weeks after 4 Weeks: $440 USD / Week. ** Prices are subject to fluctuate with currency changes as original prices are in South African Rand (ZAR).
