Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world. Often the teachers are overworked and have large class sizes, leaving them unable to attend to each of the students. As a volunteer on this program, you will have the opportunity to assist the teachers with much-needed support, as well as help the students with a better understanding of the English Language, Math, and Science.
If you have teaching experience you may be placed in one of the community secondary schools. In the afternoons, you’ll participate in the sports part of the program by supporting local teams and assisting with coaching and drills.
Volunteers at this program must have a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) in order to provide the proper support to the teachers and the students. The facilities only have very basic equipment and are always looking for donations such as soccer balls, and other sports equipment.
Volunteers are crucial to the encouragement of the children to participate in sports and other activities. You’ll be a core part of teaching them amazing new skills as well as, health and fitness, team skills and personal development!
Volunteering on this program requires some flexibility as the itinerary will vary depending on the needs of the program. As a volunteer on this program, you'll work with the teachers to provide support in classes as well as sports education.
