Hippotherapy (horses) and canotherapy (dogs) are recognized worldwide as an effective method for physical, mental and emotional rehabilitation. The goal-oriented program develops the patient’s balance, coordination, orientation, and rhythm while giving them a sense of achievement and an emotional connection with the animal they are working with.
Volunteers staying in Quito can choose to stay with a carefully vetted family, who have experience of hosting foreign volunteers. This is a fabulous opportunity to practice one’s Spanish and becoming deeply immersed in Ecuadorian culture. The volunteer project will be no further than a manageable bus ride away. Home stays include three meals a day. Volunteers with special dietary requirements and/or food allergies are asked to inform the organization in advance to ensure their needs are met. In Quito only, it is possible for volunteers to live in a private apartment or hostel, although this will be more expensive, may suit a volunteer couple. The accommodation details for projects elsewhere in Ecuador are described under their respective Project Descriptions.
