What to Expect?

So what does life on the project actually involve? See below for an idea of what to expect on a day to day basis…

Day 1: Arrival and Welcome
You will be met at Phuket airport and we all travel together to our project base. After a tour and introduction there will be time to relax, settle in and start to get to know the rest of your group. Through dinner and a presentation you will learn more about GVI's work in Thailand and around the world.

Day 2: Introduction, Orientation and Training
The morning session will include a welcome presentation and introductions, history and background of the projects and health & safety. After lunch you will be given a guided tour and orientation to the local area, the community and learn a bit about the culture and language.

Day 3 to 5: Volunteer Work
We arrive at the project site and receive orientation to the location, community and project work. A planning meeting will help to organize task groups and set goals for the week ahead. After lunch we begin the challenge at hand!

The construction project will take your team to one of our partners, such as a local school, for some hands on practical work improving the infrastructure and learning environment. The exact work will depend on the needs of our partners at the time but typically may involve some basic maintenance and renovation work or painting and brightening up the space with murals or other artwork.

Day 6: Volunteer Work - The Deadline Looms!
Work continues with the deadline looming and challenges to overcome to complete the task on time.

Day 7: Volunteer Work - The Final Day
The last day on construction, the day culminates with a final push to finish off your work and leave a lasting contribution to our partners and the children.

Day 8: Cultural Weekend
Over the weekend, you begin your adventures by exploring the local area and enjoy some of the highlights. You may go and see the Khao Sok National Park and the stunning Cheow Larn lake and the stunning surrounding rainforest.

Day 9: Cultural Weekend
Another local highlight that is always popular is the Khao Lak with its seemingly endless beaches and laid back atmosphere, a very suitable way to end the weekend.

Day 10: Adventure Side Trip
The southern islands of Thailand are world-renowned for their beauty and this is where we journey to! You will get to enjoy a range of activities on several of the islands such as sea kayaking in Ao Thalane to explore Krabi’s coastal treasures, paddling through spectacular karst rock formations, secret caves and mangroves.

Day 11: Adventure Side Trip
On the second day you will join a "4 island tour", which involves taking a boat to different local islands with time to stop at each one to snorkel, swim and relax. You will also visit Phra Nang Cave on the stunning Railay Beach.

Day 12: Adventure Side Trip
On day three, it’s the Ko Phi-Phi speedboat tour and the group will travel to Bamboo Island (near Phi Phi), then onto Viking Cave (home to thousands of swallows), finishing off the day at Maya Bay, one of the world’s most beautiful beaches and the location for the The Beach, starring Leonardo di Caprio.

Day 13: Adventure Side Trip
Your final day on Railay you will have some time to relax and soak up the rays of Hat Phra Nang, a stunning beach located on Railay. Here you can enjoy some beach time, get a traditional Thai massage, take photos of the mischievous monkeys or get snacks from the boats that pull up to the beach.

Day 14: Meet the Team!
For the last day, you will be back on project and the chance to meet some other volunteers and share experiences with them. You will learn about the projects they are working on and how your work contributes to the overall mission in Thailand. Leaders will also sit down with each of you to review your experience, and reflect upon the trip and your own individual experiences. All going well the afternoon will include a little free time for some last minute shopping before a group departure dinner in the evening where everyone can discuss the highlights of the previous two weeks.

Day 15: Departure
Time for final goodbyes before returning to the airport to depart.
