A One Horizon program in Kenya will expose you to a different way of life. In our 7-day itinerary, you will be visiting 5 centres in and around Nairobi. These centres range from an infants’ crèche and primary schools in the slums of Kibera and Kwangware, to a refuge and retraining centre for HIV-affected women in Ngong Hills.
The founders of One Horizon believe that people with the will can make a difference to the lives of less fortunate communities and individuals. The founders’ conviction that tangible, sustainable and immediate improvements in people’s lives could be achieved through awareness, focus and resources is what drove them to establish One Horizon and it has been a remarkable success with an awe-inspiring list of achievements.
One Horizon enables everyone to contribute something back to the global community. This means more than charitable cash donations. One Horizon enables you to give of yourself whilst experiencing the lives of people perhaps less fortunate.
We spend 100% of your volunteer fees implementing our projects which includes expenditure such as feeding programs, clean water provision, education and school equipment and housing, etc.
Come and see how your contributions are making a real difference to people’s lives. We couldn’t feed children and help people have a brighter future without your support. Come and see for yourself and become part of the One Horizon family.
What to Expect?
In this 7-day experience, you will visit a number of our centres from a crèche located in Kwangare slum to a primary school in the largest slum in East Africa housing 1 million people – the school has 270 disadvantaged, abused and abandoned children.
You will also visit a retraining facility for HIV-affected women and families where 20 women undertake a retraining program each year to enable them to support their families. The focus of the centre is to provide life time skills education, to help these women establish their own small business. One Horizon works across these areas has been instrumental in providing resources required to train the women (such as sewing machines), in providing contracts for work and in providing housing solutions. You can even purchase a One Horizon T-Shirt made by these women and 100% of all sales goes to them.
One Horizon’s projects in Kenya are designed to address the interrelated factors perpetuating the poverty cycle including poor housing, sanitation, nutrition, clean water, hygiene standards, training and education needs.
A One Horizon experience can redefine what is possible. We believe that when immersed in the challenges and possibilities of new cultures and given the resources to make a difference, people have the power to change the world. Our volunteer experiences will broaden your horizon and expand your understanding of the world.
