The Women's Empowerment program aims to assist women who have suffered domestic violence. Most women have children, and the shelter also assists those children directly. The project aims to help with emotional healing as well as teaching skills and helping the women regain control of their lives. Part of the volunteers’ responsibilities will be to help the women with English, support them during the professional workshops, as well as lend a hand around the shelter (cooking, cleaning, laundry etc.). Volunteers will also have the opportunity to organize activities for the women, which is a great chance to provide skill-oriented training. Travelers will share their own experiences, insights end engage local women with construction and patient conversation. You will stay with a local Peruvian family while volunteering in Cusco. All families have been fully vetted by our local team and have experience hosting volunteers in Peru. In most cases, you will have your own room and shared bathroom. Part of your program fee is given to your host family to cover the costs of accommodation and food. It truly is the best way to throw yourself into the local culture and you are bound to meet people who will become lifelong friends!
