Cultural Immersion in Bukoba, Tanzania

Global Citizens Network provides opportunities to experience a lifestyle and culture different than your own while collaborating with local volunteers on grassroots initiatives. GCN has been facilitating cultural immersion trips in partnership with indigenous and marginalized communities around the world for 20 years.

In Bukoba, Tanzania, you will have the chance to work alongside volunteers from COSAD (Community Solutions for Africa's Development), an innovative local nonprofit whose focus is bringing economic stability to the region. Past projects include building a water retention system for a cooperatively-owned goat farm and construction of a community center/health clinic.

What to Expect?

Trip participants will stay in the home of a local family. Accommodations are basic yet comfortable, and team members will have the chance to experience shopping for fresh, locally-sourced fruit and vegetables in Bukoba's outdoor market. Since GCN offers multi-generational immersion experiences, people of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to contribute accordingly. Opportunities to engage in cultural activities are plentiful, with a visit to the local drum-maker, gospel choir performances, and school visits all possible excursions in the community.
