Caribbean conservation, Saint Lucia

Volunteer with the highly respected Saint Lucia National Trust - help in their vital work to conserve and preserve this Caribbean island's rich environmental and cultural heritage. History, beautiful beaches, tropical fauna and fauna - what a great place to work!

The volunteer programme is based at the Trust's headquarters in Pigeon Island National Park, a living museum within a natural setting of 44 acres. Pigeon Island was originally surrounded by the sea but is now linked to the mainland by a causeway.

What to Expect?

The Project

Established in 1975, the Saint Lucia National Trust was established in 1975 was created for the specific purpose of preserving areas of natural beauty and the historic built environment for present and future generations.

The Trust is a non-profit organization and all revenues received are used for the conservation of the island's natural and cultural heritage of Saint Lucia. There is a strong membership of 600 and it is continuing to grow. As well as their ongoing conservation and preservation work, the Trust needs to improve and develop income generating products and services, and the necessary organisational structure to support these initiatives.

The Trust has identified their needs for volunteer support in the areas of:

- restoration and preservation

- historical research

- curator expertise

- marketing and sales

- tourism management

- facilties management

- human resources management

- organisation and business development

- customer service

Volunteers will work with and advise the executive staff - a team of twenty led by Director Bishnu Tulsie. The volunteer programme is based at the headquarters in Pigeon Island National Landmark, one of the most important monuments of St. Lucia's history.

Living Conditions

Volunteers live in a comfortable homestay within a short bus ride of Pigeon Island. You will have your own large and airy room with plenty of storage space and work space. Breakfast and supper will be provided, together with a packed lunch when needed.

Local small hotel accommodation can be arranged at additional cost.

Saint Lucia - history, beautiful beaches and a large variety of tropical fauna and fauna - what a great place to work! Oh and it's also the location for the world-renowned Jazz Festival!
